File C source code IS-ENES2_MS2.5_Update of ENES strategy for HPC
This milestone presents the contribution of the HPC task force to the update of the ENES strategy, focussing on computing issues. To address the challenges faced today by Earth System sciences, the climate modelling community needs to better exploit current and future HPC technologies. This paper lays out an argument to go in that direction following three strands: (i) improving current climate models, while (ii) developing in parallel a new generation of models able and (iii) accessing increased computing capacity including Tier0 platforms. It also describes how new avenues need to be considered regarding people, training and relation with vendors to reach these objectives.

File IS-ENES2_MS4.3_Draft governance model document for the community coupler
After a historical overview of the OASIS coupler development and some elements on its possible future evolution, this document presents the current status of the community governance process for the coupler and how to develop it. A "straw man" governance structure including a stakeholder group, a technical advisory group and a user group is then proposed as a basis for further engagement. Some questions we propose to ask shortly to the OASIS user institutions to better understand their position on how they envisage, or not, a possible governance process around a community coupling software are then formulated.

File IS-ENES2_MS4.5_Configuration Management Best Practice Guide for Climate Science
A configuration management best practice guide for Climate Science has been produced taking contributions from more than 40 individuals from more than 30 institutions. This paper analyses configuration management from the point of view of a number of key roles: model developers, system owners, experiment designers and data consumers. The conclusion is that a wider exploitation of tools to capture the full workflow and to formalize testing and code reviewing would add to the good practices commonly used in the community. An appendix on model reproducibility provides useful background to the challenges faced by the community.

File text/texmacs IS-ENES2_MS4.6_Final workshop on meta-data generation during experiments
From 2016-09-27 to 29 a common workshop was held in Lisbon for IS-ENES2 milestones 4.6 (metadata generation) and 4.7 (workflows). This paper is to document the metadata part of the workshop which aimed to explore methodologies that make metadata capture more efficient, investigate any options for sharing existing software to do this and also aimed to influence the development of the meta-data standards and central tools that the community will need to use in future CMIP and related inter comparison projects.

File IS-ENES2_MS5.2_Consultations on Data Access Protocols
The milestones MS 5.2 and MS 5.3 gather information for the deliverable D 5.3 (due M42) which is the Report on basic data access protocols and data quality control. In this sense they are preparations for D5.3. We give an overview about the situation of data access protocols in some of the main projects relevant in the ENES context. This comprises legal and technical issues.

The milestones MS 5.2 and MS 5.3 gather information for the deliverable D 5.3 which is the Report on basic data access protocols and data quality control. In this sense they are preparations for D5.3. We give an overview about the situation of data quality control in some of the main projects relevant in the ENES context. Starting from here we made a set of short interviews with project members. With these results in mind we prepared a set of questions to be discussed in more detail in further interviews.

File IS-ENES2_MS6.1_Report on needs for the EEA Clearing House
One of the major stakeholders to be served through the Climate4Impacts portal (C4I) is European Environmental Agency (EEA). This brief report addresses EEAs data needs and maps working relations aimed at fulfillment of these needs. Relevant EEA working relations aimed at realization of these needs are primarily with the JRC and the Copernicus Climate Services, at a secondary level with the IPCC TGICA and DDC and ESGF and at a third level with relevant EU-projects addressing climate change and impacts projections.
